How to Choose a Blanket

What is a Weighted Blanket?

A weighted blanket, also known as a 'gravity blanket' is heavier than a standard blanket. To us, it's our at-home therapy. Filled with small glass beads, a weighted blanket is meant to help relieve stress, anxiety, and even help with day-to-day issues such as restlessness, PTSD, and insomnia. These blankets are also quilted to help evenly disperse the weight, making it an even amount of light pressure to the body. They're also filled with polyfill batting to keep them nice and comfy.

What the Benefits of a Weighted Blanket?

The great benefits of a weighted blanket are naturally reducing stress and promoting rest and relaxation. The extra weight helps to minimize body movement for a deeper sleep. According to study published in 2016 in the Journal of the Formosan Medical Association, researchers suggested that weighted blankets may be suitable for adults and children with certain mental health disorders, such as depression and autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

How do I pick my Weighted Blanket?

Weight will be the first consideration for buying a weighted blanket. It can vary from 8lb to 20 lbs. The cover’s material composition is another variable to consider, as some fabrics are softer and more breathable than others. See our chart below for a more in-depth breakdown of what weight to choose. Please note that your weighted blanket should be 8% – 10% of your body weight.
